Early yesterday I thought that the darn rubber band I'd found in my Raw Food Smoothie (talked about in earlier post) created offspring in my tummy. I had a knot the size of Australia in my guts which I envisioned as an ugly, dark gray, solid ball of rubberbands - that smelled like soot.
I do have an active imagination, but my more-than-you-need-to-know description of this particular anxiety isn't something that just came to me. I listened to Belleruth Naparstek's CD on anxiety - and her recordings often have you visualize things - so I was visualizing my anxiety (which leapt on me the night before and kept me from a decent sleep - odd since I can sleep through anything - including heavy metal drumming and guitaring in the next room).
The breathing exercises she has on the recording, the way she gently guides - doesn't push for a particular response - was helpful to me. Naming (well, picturing) the anxiety, wondering about it - opening to the possibility of it doing something different - all that was helpful.
I wasn't leaping around with a grin immediately, but I do think that listening to her CD was one of the things that helped me yesterday (yesterday's post - Beauty in the Dark - talked about other things that helped me deal with my feelings). So I thought I'd mention it - who knows, you might have anxiety sometimes, too - you're breathing, right?
I have many of Belleruth's recordings - ones for dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma - for improving performance, working with anger and forgiveness, migraine headaches (to get rid of them, not encourage them on - grin), and more - if you can believe it! I also have two of her books. I'm a Belleruth fan and I thought I'd share her web site link because her work is incredible and has helped me and loads of people I know (loads of clients too, from my time as a psychotherapist).
Just so you know ~ I'm not connected with Belleruth in any way, do not make money from pointing you her way. I do have a connection with Amazon, I'm an affiliate, and hence make a small amount from book sales generated through the links I have on the site - just realizing I haven't said that here, and I wanted to mention it.
